Papo Goes to The Emmys

It was very exciting for the entire Papo d’Anjo team to watch The Emmy Awards and see actress Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper in the hit show “Mad Men,” wearing a dress from our bespoke collection. The floral patterned organza fabric is elegant but also innocent and Kiernan looked stunning in the dress. If you are interested in a custom-made dress for your daughter, please call customer service at 888-660-6111. In Europe, call 00800-6606-1111.

The day before the awards, Kiernan also wore Papo d’Anjo to the British Academy of Television Arts/Los Angeles Emmy TV Tea Party. The batik patterned dress is one of my favorites from our upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 trunk shows and I was delighted when Kiernan chose it for the party.

Summer’s Last Gasp: Harbor Springs, MI

Paige, Billy, Libby, and Bo Howenstein enjoying the long summer days in Harbor Point, Michigan.

The places we spend our childhood summers are special to us for our entire lives. For Los Angeles-based Papo d’Anjo trunk show director Angela Howenstein and her family, that place is Harbor Springs, Michigan.

Harbor Springs is a classic midwestern summer retreat. Located only 45 minutes from Mackinac Island (home to the historic Grand Hotel), its a meeting spot for sailors from all over the world who understand the unique challenges and thrills of Lake Michigan regattas.

One of my favorite places in Harbor Springs is an area known as Harbor Point. No cars are allowed–only bikes or horse-drawn carriages. It’s quiet and charming and a safe and easy place for children to explore on their own. Make sure to check out the beaches with their turquoise water and enormous sand dunes. Truly a magical setting.

Harbor Springs is a cottage culture, where families have gathered for generations. But if your family prefers hotels, the place to stay is the Colonial Inn.

I know that this time of year can be hectic and that many moms are busy filling out school forms and buying supplies. I hope you get at least a moment to savor summer’s waning moments.

Personal Shopper: A Back to School Wardrobe for Boys

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over. For moms who are looking for back-to-school ideas for their sons, Papo d’Anjo has an extensive range of options made from soft fabrics in comfortable styles.

Start with a Half-Zip Sweater in navy.

Feel free to start with a different sweater style or mix and match with coordinating colors in each category. I usually pick one main color theme for each child and take it from there. Enjoy!

Personal Shopper: A Back to School Wardrobe for Girls

Last year Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands wore Papo d’Anjo to take her younger sister Alexia to her first day of kindergarten. While many American children start school wearing summer clothes, it’s never too early to get your childrens’ school options in place.

I like to build back-to-school wardrobes around a versatile item that coordinates with comfortable dresses, skirts and tops. For girls, that means a Cashmere Cabled Cardigan. I like brown because it looks beautiful against any skin tone and goes well with so many options from the current collection. From there I would add:

This is just one color combination of many. The trick is to choose items that will go with each other so that your daughter can choose her own clothing every morning and you’ll know it will match. Next week I’ll put together a wardrobe for boys.

Happy shopping!

Two Instant Classics

The Anjo Blouse

The Fall/Winter 2010 Collection is now available and I look forward to writing about it over the next several months. In addition to providing the designs Papo d’Anjo is known for — including the Tartan Gathered Dress and the Duffle Coat–I worked hard with this collection to create new designs that will be both stylish and versatile.

Knit Top With Ruffle Collar

Two of my favorite new options include  the Knit Top With Ruffled Collar and The Anjo Blouse. The Knit Top combines the ease and comfort of a turtleneck or polo with a beautiful collar that can be either dressy or casual. It’s already a staple with the children of Papo d’Anjo trunk show hostesses.

“Anjo” means angel in Portuguese and this delightful new blouse also can be worn with jeans or under our new knitted dresses. It’s a romantic blouse that’s perfect for school or special occasions. Both shirts are great transitional items for your daughter’s back to school wardrobe.

I hope you and your families are enjoying your final month of summer.
