Catherine’s Picks for Fall

I pared down the Fall 2011 Collection to include only  the outfits mothers tell me their children wear the most. When combined with Papo’s new Vintage Collection, there are still many choices and combinations. But my hope is that this more selective assortment makes shopping for your children’s wardrobe even easier.

If my own children could still wear Papo, I’d certainly dress them in this season’s new red and navy plaid. Not only is it fresh and fun, but it’s also very versatile. For girls, start with the Kilt and the Double Ric Rac Collar Blouse with red trim. Layer on a sweater in either red, navy, or even yellow.

Match brothers in Plain Front Pants in the same plaid. Pair with a white Boy’s Button-Down Collar Shirt and a Cashmere or Half-Zip Sweater in navy. Finish the look with a Duffle Coat in navy, red, or saffron (looks great on girls, too). Or dress it up with a navy Blazer.

All of these items can be paired with other clothes from the collection, including Jeans and the Sleeveless A-Line Jumper.

I also love the Pleated Liberty Tunic Dress because it works very well for late summer and is the perfect back-to-school dress. Once the weather turns chilly, warm it up with Ribbed Tights, Velvet Sabrinas, and a Cashmere Cardigan.

Personal Shopper: A Back to School Wardrobe for Boys

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over. For moms who are looking for back-to-school ideas for their sons, Papo d’Anjo has an extensive range of options made from soft fabrics in comfortable styles.

Start with a Half-Zip Sweater in navy.

Feel free to start with a different sweater style or mix and match with coordinating colors in each category. I usually pick one main color theme for each child and take it from there. Enjoy!

Perfect Father’s Day Gifts from Papo

The family of Papo staffer Vera D' Orey.

Several years ago my husband Pascal asked me to make him adult versions of the Papo d’Anjo polos and swimsuits that our boys wear every day during the summer. Since then, our Men’s Striped Polo, Men’s Surfer Style Swimsuit, and Men’s Swim Trunk have become top sellers.

Longtime Papo kids Sebastian and James head out in their matching swimsuits.

These items make not only terrific Father’s Day gifts but are also great options for older boys who have outgrown Papo d’Anjo but still appreciate the unique color combinations and more refined fit.

I hope you and your families have a lovely time celebrating the special dads in your lives.

Boys’ Essentials on Sale

This week some of our most popular boys’ warm weather essentials are being discounted 30 percent.  Dressier options include our Classic Shorts and Little Boys’ Short Sleeved Shirt, which comes in some of my favorite fabrics such as our French madras and our classic cotton checks.

More casual options include Casual Shorts, our hugely popular Twill Classic Shorts, Cargo Shorts, and Chinos. I’m particularly fond of our new Lightweight Twill Shorts, which look slightly dressier. My own boys’ prefer them because they are extremely comfortable.

One of the unexpected treats of being a designer is finding out the many ways that my customers adapt my styles to suit their own tastes.  I got the inspiration for the Boy’s Tunic Shirt from my visits to Austria and Bavaria, where both boys and men wear them with Lederhosen. The style has been a hit not only with boys with also with girls.

The same is true of our beautiful Liberty Button Down Collar Shirts. They look great on boys, but are also adorable on girls when they are tied at the waist and worn with Plain Trousers or Jeans.

There’s a lot of other great news to share this week, including a fundraiser being held in New Orleans on Saturday. The event is being put together by a charity called Forget Me Not NOLA, which was created by a group of 18-year-old girls who wanted to do something to help people around the world.

This year’s beneficiary is Sentebale, Prince Harry’s non-profit to benefit the residents of Lesotho, South Africa. The event will feature a fashion show where all the children will be dressed in Papo d’Anjo outfits that I selected. I couldn’t be more pleased to have my company associated with an organization that shows how young people’s compassion can be such a force for good.

I’ll post photos and more information about the event next week.

Dress your boys in flowers

Like most mothers, I can’t stand the grunge aesthetic that’s so popular with both boys and girls these days.   After my husband asked me to make him some shirts out of Papo’s custom Liberty fabrics, I decided to try them for my sons and customers.

What I found is that when my boys actually wear something a little more cheerful they got a lot of positive feedback. Other moms have told me this as well;  they continue to shop at Papo for happier alternatives to camouflage and dingy military colors.

In addition to Papo’s Liberty Button Down Collar Shirt (shown above), I also love the  heathered pique polos (below). The colors are as soft and beautiful as watercolors. They are perfect for playing as well as an occasion where you have to look a bit more dressed up.

I hope these items add some fun to your sons’ wardrobes.
