Papo d’Anjo Supports Bebe Ravi

If you join us at an Autum/Winter 2011 Trunk Show you’ll notice a beautiful new capsule collection of hand-knit sweaters designed by me for Bebe Ravi, a children’s knitwear company whose proceeds benefit the Patrick Chege Memorial Orphanage in Kenya.

Siamanda Chege and her two daughters.

Bebe Ravi was started by Siamanda Chege, a former fashion model from Kenya who now lives with her family in New York City. In addition to raising funds for the orphanage that bears her father’s name, Siamanda employs women in Nakuru, Kenya, to knit the sweaters.

Providing jobs in a region where unemployment rates run as high as 40 percent is no small feat when you consider that many of these women have been widowed by the AIDS epidemic. When I met Siamanda last January, I was knocked out by her charm and passion for her cause, which made me immediately want to join her efforts.

On my honeymoon in Kenya.

That I spent part of my honeymoon with my husband Pascal in that beautiful yet challenged country, made helping out feel like an even more natural fit. That’s why 100% of the proceeds from all Bebe Ravi knitwear from our trunk shows will go toward the Patrick Chege Memorial Orphanage.

Please come see for yourself why these hand knit sweaters are so special.  Email Sybil Heine @sheine@comcast.com to find the trunk show nearest you.

P.S. This year, Siamanda has expanded her volunteer program to include high school students who want to work in the orphanage. It’s a program I hope my own children will have the honor to experience.

Fall 2011 Trunk Show Season Is Underway

The Fall & Winter 2011/2012 trunk show season has begun. The big news is that the much-loved Papo Pajamas are back and available in a luxurious, flame-retardant fabric.

Finding a solution that meets my priority for softness and comfort and complies with United States safety standards was a painstaking process. But I’m extremely happy with the results and know your children will be, too.

Pajamas aren’t the only new offerings. I’m also very excited about a new velvet and voile party dress, dress shorts for girls, and a wool plaid barn jacket (above) for boys. Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the Liberty leggings this Spring, I’ve designed a  Fall version in three different color stories.

This week, my staff and I will be in New York City. Please join us from Tuesday through Friday (March 8-11), 8:30-5:00, at the Carlyle Hotel, Suite 711. The hotel is at 33 East 76th Street; 212-744-1600.

Friends are welcome. If you bring a new friend to the trunk show, both of you will receive 15% off your orders.

Trunk shows offer many advantages over our catalog and website, including:

  • Lower prices.
  • Free shipping.
  • Guaranteed availability.
  • A more extensive selection of clothing. Our catalog and website sell only a fraction of what’s available at a trunk show.

If you want to know if there’s a trunk show in your area, please email Sybil Heine at sheine@comcast.net.

Join Us at the New York Spring/Summer 2011 Trunk Show

Today marks the start of the New York City Spring/Summer 2011 trunk show. Please come to the Carlyle Hotel on East 76th Street today, Wednesday, and Thursday between 8:30 AM and 5 PM. The entire Papo d’Anjo team is at the show to help you coordinate outfits and put together the perfect order for your family’s needs.

I love designing for summer because it’s an opportunity to combine colors in a fresh and youthful way. I focused this collection around five main color stories: blue and turquoise; orange and pink; pastels; hot pink and blue; and red, white, and blue.

I’ve added a number of new designs into the collection this year that I think will be particularly popular, including Liberty leggings and terry beach rompers. I’ve also included a number of “statement” party dresses for weddings or other special warm weather occasions.

Many of these designs are exclusive to the trunk shows and won’t be available on our website or catalog. Please stop by and see for yourself!

Papo Goes to The Emmys

It was very exciting for the entire Papo d’Anjo team to watch The Emmy Awards and see actress Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper in the hit show “Mad Men,” wearing a dress from our bespoke collection. The floral patterned organza fabric is elegant but also innocent and Kiernan looked stunning in the dress. If you are interested in a custom-made dress for your daughter, please call customer service at 888-660-6111. In Europe, call 00800-6606-1111.

The day before the awards, Kiernan also wore Papo d’Anjo to the British Academy of Television Arts/Los Angeles Emmy TV Tea Party. The batik patterned dress is one of my favorites from our upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 trunk shows and I was delighted when Kiernan chose it for the party.

Trunk Show Notebook: Meet Nashville Hostess Gigi Grimstad

Gigi's younger daughter hits the beach in a Papo bikini and Boy's Tunic as a cover-up.

Gigi's younger daughter hits the beach in a Papo Bikini and Boy's Tunic.

Since the Nashville trunk show starts on Tuesday, I’d like to introduce hostess extraordinaire Gigi Grimstad.  Gigi first became interested in Papo when her oldest daughter, now 13, was a year old. “The clothes were beautiful and simple without ornamentations like embroidered cupcakes,” she remembers. “Baby outfits like that were so hard to find.”

Gigi’s trunk show took off quickly. Today, her team’s speciality is helping customers put together orders where every item coordinates. “Our philosophy is that kids can go into their closet and mix and match,” she says. “Everything works together.”

Part of the fun of Gigi’s trunk shows is that they are held at Jamie, her beautiful luxury goods boutique in the city’s lovely Belle Meade neighborhood.  The store carries a beautifully edited selection of women’s clothing by the world’s best designers, including Alberta Ferreti, Marni, Bottega Veneta, and Loro Piano.

Gigi's older daughter gives our smocked dress a modern kick with white jeans and sandals.

If you are in Nashville, stop by Jamie this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and see Papo d’Anjo’s Winter 2010 collection. I also asked Gigi for her warm weather picks. They include the Papo d’Anjo Bikini with the Boy’s Tunic Shirt as a cover-up. Her two daughters also love the smocked dresses from the Summer 2010 trunk show, which her oldest daughter has made even hipper by pairing it with white  jeans.

Fall Forecast: The New York City Trunk Show

This week, Papo d’Anjo is hosting our New York City Winter 2010 Trunk Show on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Carlyle Hotel at 33 East 76th Street. I will be there along with my trunk show colleagues and we would love to see you and personally help you coordinate your children’s clothing for next fall and winter.

I have made several updates to the line that I’m particularly excited about. In response to customer requests, I’ve designed a new holiday dress with long sleeves, as well as a few new dresses that are more fashion forward than my more traditional models. They’re adorable and I think will give mothers and daughters more opportunities to agree on outfits that are both trendy but allow girls to look like girls.

I normally design each collection to have five distinct color stories. This year’s big color is a gorgeous shade of purple that looks beautiful on any skin tone. I have even incorporated a beautiful lavender sweater into the mix for boys.

Please join us at the Carlyle. I always love connecting personally with Papo d’Anjo’s customers and hope to see you there.

Special Times Call for Special Outfits

My daughter Camilla at her First Communion.

I first got the idea to create made-to-order clothing when my daughters were asked to be flower girls in my friends’ weddings. While I had no shortage of beautiful party dresses at the ready, I realized that my custom-made designs were truly special because they not only fit perfectly but were also extremely unique.

Since then Papo d’Anjo has been producing these bespoke–the British term for custom-made clothing–for special occasions including Baptisms, Weddings, First Communions, and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Customers can choose from a carefully edited assortment of my favorite designs and fabrics that I sourced from the finest mills in Europe.  I’ve selected gorgeous of French piques, delicate organzas, silk taffetas, Italian linens and luxurious cotton velvets.

Since many First Communions happen on or around Easter, I wanted to mention that the deadline for these special outfits is March 1. To receive our Bespoke Brochure, complete with fabric swatches, or to speak to one of our dedicated Bespoke specialists please call:
